The Royal Oak is a small family run hotel ideally situated beyond the "Jaws of Borrowdale", six miles south of Keswick. Once an 18th century farmhouse, the hotel has been accommodating visitors and walkers for over one hundred years and is the perfect base from which to explore the beauty o the northern Lake District.

The farmland skirts the River Brathay and the copses are the haunt of red and roe deer as well as buzzards and owls. In summer the swallows dart overhead and nest in the great stone barn, over 200years old. Herdwick sheep from the National Trust's farm at Fell Foot graze here also.
